Why do I like to do art challenges?
Art Challenges. It keeps me on my toes. Actually by having a challenge to paint or draw every day, it builds up a bit of momentum in how my art brain works. I find I start to look around me and notice things with fresh eyes. Many of you followed along on social media last October when I did my Inktober Challenge. I definitely had some fun then.
Which art challenge now?
I am currently taking part in a Facebook challenge (#30faces30dayspr0mpts) to paint or draw 30 faces during the month of April. This challenge has word prompts for each day which adds to the challenge.
The third aspect of this challenge is to make the faces/portraits #soulfulfaces. My own twist on this is that I determined I need practice on rendering the male portrait. Ha! Just for fun.
So far I have done 8 images. I need to create one for today.
Day 1’s offering
Drips and Splashes, inks and water soluble pencil on paper
Day 2 – Dream
This is a digital drawing and I did 3 versions!
Day 3 – Text
I posted a video of this little drawing on my YouTube Channel as well.
Day 4 – Wing
I particularly like this drawing, also a digital painting done on my iPad Pro
Day 5 – White/High Key
I struggled with this challenge because – if you know me – you know I LOVE color! I did two for today. The first I used an old master painter’s portrait of a young man as my inspiration. Which is probably why he feels like an angel, with a gold halo. Gold paint, acrylics on paper
This next one could actually be posted for Day 9 (April 9) – the challenge is monochrome. Everyone needs a Guardian Angel, ink and acrylic on vellum bristol paper.
Day 6 – Twins
I am very happy with this painting. Again it is all digital, done on my iPad Pro. My inspiration model is a friend’s daughter who has awesome curly red hair. What a beauty.
Day 7 – Animal Spirit
A digital drawing – I struggled with this theme all day, and landed up drawing late into the night to get it onto the digital canvas. I relate deeply to the plight of our endangered species – and particularly the rhinos. I think that comes through in the piece.
Day 9 – Monochrome
Still in my head! Find it on my social media for now. Or refer to day 5’s Guardian Angel!
Let me know in your comments which are your favorites so far. I would love to hear your responses to each piece of art.
